PS5 Support The PS4 Controllers Or Not

PS5 Game Controller - samblogger01

The DualShock 4 will not work with the new PS5 games. However, the Japan-based company later clarified that players can use the DualShock 4 with the PS5 in certain scenarios. Fortunately, the PS5 will come with backward compatibility. This means that players will be able to play PS4 titles on the new PS5 using the DualShock 4 controllers.

Sony seems to have a different vision when asked about the support of DualShock 4 for the new PS5 games. It believes that the new-gen PS5 games should take advantage of the new features and functionalities that are coming into the platform. The PS5 will come with DualSense wireless controllers for the new lineup of the games. So only the ‘supported’ PS4 games will be playable in the PS5 using the DualShock 4 controllers and the other 3rd-party PS4 controllers which are officially licensed by Sony. Fans still await the list of these supported games from Sony.

This is in contrast to what Microsoft is doing with the launch of its new console Xbox Series X. The Series X will have complete backward compatibility for the controllers, players can use any of the previous Xbox controllers with the new Series X. It is worth noting that Microsoft’s newer controllers are not very different from the previous ones. However, on the other hand, Sony seems to compel the players into adapting to the new PS ecosystem by purchasing DualSense wireless controllers necessary for playing the PS5 games. The new DualSense controllers will pack in a bunch of features like adaptive triggers, an integrated microphone, and haptic feedback.

One good news is that the new PS5 won’t lose support for all the PS4 accessories. These accessories include fight sticks, arcade sticks, and officially licensed racing wheels. Players can use all these old accessories with the new PS5 games. Apart from this, the PlayStation Motion Controllers, the PS Camera, and the VR Aim Controller will also be supported in the new PS5 VR games. It is worth mentioning that for the PS Camera, you’ll need a dedicated camera adapter on the PS5, which will be provided free of cost by Sony to the VR users. However, this is only the case with the official PS4 accessories. Sony confirmed that not all third-party accessories will be supported by the new PS5, the players will need to check with the respective manufacturers of these accessories whether these are supported with the PS5.
